– stern trawler delivered from Karstensens Shipyard to Scottish Owners

Newbuilding no 385 from Karstensens Shipyard Ltd in Skagen, Denmark was handed over to Scottish owners William Reid & Partners, Avoch on 1 June 2001. The new vessel replaces the owners' previous vessels «Imperial» and «Apollo». Owners have kept the old «Apollo» and re-named her «Golden Reaper». The company is headed by main shareholder skipper William Reid and his brothers Michael and Leslie.

«Apollo» is constructed and fitted out as a stern trawler capable of fishing with twin-rig. Designworks were carried out by Karstensens Shipyard in close co-operation with the Owners.

The hull is built in steel with two continuous decks, main deck and shelter deck, and with long forecastle- and boat decks. The vessel is arranged with bulbous bow and sternskeg, flared stem and transom stern. The hull was built by Stal-Rem, Gdansk in Poland and towed to Skagen for outfitting and completion.

Below the main deck the hull is subdivided into five watertight compartments: forepeak, bowthruster room with sonar compartment, insulated hold with main hold and blast freezer room, engine room with main engine connected to one reduction gearbox with one propeller in steering nozzle and aftpeak with tanks.

On main deck the vessel is arranged with forepeak, accommodation section extended in starboard, fish handling area with off-set unloading hatch PS and fish hopper aft CL with engine room access and ventilation trunk starboard and exhaust casing PS. All aft CL steering gear compartment and winch compartments SB and PS.

Accomodation forward on main deck is arranged with 2x2, 1x4 and 1xskippers cabins, mess room/galley and changing room with attached toilet/shower compartment.
The shelter deck is arranged with one split trawl winch forward, lifted wheelhouse forward of midship, abaft the wheelhouse off-set unloading hatch PS and two netdrums with cod-end hatch in-between. Trawl- and cod-end gantries are mounted at the stern.

Tank capacities: fuel oil 41,8 m3 and fresh water 12,3 m3. The vessel is built according to Det Norske Veritas @1A1 Stern Trawler.

Deck equipment/accomodation
Rapp Hydema, Bodø is the supplier of hydraulic winches throughout. The deck crane is of Thistle Marine make, model TZM Guerra 90-90M2. Bo Andersen, Hanstholm has delivered conveyors on deck. Trawl blocks are supplied by Brdr. Markussen, Blue Line, and anchors and chains by Sotra Marine Produkter.


The autotrawl system is from Rapp Hydema, type Pentagon. Fish room cooling system is supplied by Kølemadsen with Bitzer compressor.
Windows are from Van Wingerden and wipers from Wynn. A60-doors as well as accommodation doors are supplied by Alvedoor.

The trawler is equipped with two RFD 8-persons life rafts. Navigation lights are supplied by Brøndberg & Tandrup and search lights by Norselight. Sigma is paint supplier.
The accommodation forward on main deck is arranged with two 2-men, one 4-men and one skipper's cabins, mess room/galley and changing room with attached toilet/shower compartment. Henning Frøkjær A/S, Esbjerg has been responsible for the accommodation works and has also supplied furnitures. Inexa TNF panels have been used. Wheelhouse chair is from E. Vejvad Hansen, model Skipper BX 502. Beha has supplied galley equipment.

Electrical installation works have been performed by Hanstholm Elektronik AS. The main engine remote control is delivered by Sea Mech AS. The indoor intercomsystem is from Phontech and the outdoor system from Ratheyon Ray-430.

Machinery
The main engine for propulsion is of Cummins make – model KTA50 with an output of 734 kW at 1600 rpm connected to a Hundested VP11-S 4-bladed propeller plant with a diam. of 2290 mm via a Mekanord 500 HS/LD reduction gearbox with reduction 6,56:1. The auxillaries is two of Cummins type 6CTA8.3-G(M), each 163 kW at 1500 rpm, connected to Stamford alternators at 170 kvA each. The steering gear is a Tenfjord SR 622 – 70 kNm, and the vessel is equipped with a Hundested SFT 4 bow thruster of 160 hp.

Pumps are of Desmi make for deckwash, fire and bilge type S70-50-175/D02 and hydraulic cooling S70-50-175/d02. ITT Flygt has delivered deck sump pumps F3 102 and CF 3045. Alfa Laval is supplier of separators, MAB 103 for fuel oil and Glacier is supplier of GF100 for lubricating oil. FW-pressure sets are of Bryne BM 2745 make.

Tank level control system is from Mobrey alarms, and the ventilation plant is delivered by LF Marine. Bloksma has supplied boxcoolers and Ellehammer bilge ejectors.
The CO2-plant as well as the fire detection system are from Semco Maritime with panels from Servoteknikk.

Electronics
Electronical equipment (navigation, fish finding and communication) has been delivered by Furuno UK, Woodsons of Aberdeen, Seatronics and Ormistons. All installation work were carried out by Hanstholm Elektronik AS.

The main items are Furuno FR-7062 and M-2115 radars, Furuno FCV-1200 L and Suzuki ES 2900 echo sounders, Simrad Robertson RGC50 gyro compass, Simrad Robertson AP-45 autopilot, two Furuno GP-80 GPS, Furuno FS-1562/25 and Sailor RE2100 SSB radiostations, Furuno NX-300 Navtex receiver, Furuno Felcom 12 Satcom C, NEC S2 Sat-phone, one Sailor RT4801 and two Furuno FM-2721 VHFs, portable Icom VHF, Furuno CH-250 BB sonar, MaxSea Pro and MaxSea Pro 3-D screen plotter 1, Litton Fishmaster plotter 2, Sodena Turbo 2000 plotter 3, Scanmar RX400 net monitor 1 and Furuno CN-24 net monitor 2. This is the first newbuilding with Furuno's matrix system, enabling the skipper to switch picture between four flat screens.
