Damen Shipyards Group Galati delivered Cable installation vessel M/S «MAERSK CONNECTOR» to Maersk Supply Service on 4 February 2016 as the yard’s hull no. 553015.

The vessel is described as an advanced flexible product DP2 installation vessel for HVAC, umbilicals and bundles HVDC power cable via her unique and innovative dual basket 7000 t capacity carousel. Furthermore, the vessel has a deck area of 2310 m2 with 20t/m2 deck strength, and is equipped with a 60 t A-frame. The accommodation is arranged for 90 persons.

The vessel is based on Damen’s DOC 8500 platform and is chartered to DeepOcean. The final product is the result of a successful tri-party cooperation between yard, subsea service provider and shipowning company.

The vessel is built according to Lloyd’s Register class with notations ✠100A1, Offshore Supply Ship, Helicopter landing area, @LMC, UMS, D.P. (A.A.), IWS, WDL (UDL = 20 t/m2), ECO (A, G.W., I.H.M., O.W.,P). The vessel sails under Danish flag and has the following

Machinery

The vessel has four main engines, 2 x MaK 8M25 of 2570 kWe each and 2 x MaK 6M25C of 1916 kWe each plus Caterpillar 3512C aux. engine of 1400 kW. The two azimuth propellers have each an output of 2100 kW. The vessel is equipped with 3 x 1250 kW bow thrusters and one 800 kW stern thruster.

Deck

MacGregor has supplied a 50t AHC subsea crane – double fall 100 t. capacity, and the vessel is equipped with a 60t A-frame. The cable carousel is of dual basket design with capacity of 7,000 tons. The equipment manufacturer is Parkburn. An aux. crane of 10/25m has also been installed onboard. The helideck is suitable for Sikorsky 92 with diam. of 20.9 m.

The vessel is equipped with 2 x 90 persons life boats and a fast rescue craft. The accommodation is arranged for 90 persons in 46 single and 22 double cabins.
